His career as a bassist has given Eric first-hand experience of an international scope. Since 1986 positions, both full and part-time, have included the National Chamber Orchestra (Wash. D.C.), the Richmond Symphony, the Baltimore Opera, the Winnipeg Symphony, Musick Baroque Ensemble, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the National Arts Center Orchestra (Ottawa), the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Funkhaus Orchester (Cologne), the Saratov Symphony, and since 2001 continues with the Utah Symphony. Working with conductors such as Stanislaw Skrowaczewsky, James Conlon, Marin Alsop, Mathias Bamert, Ludovic Morlot, Andrey Boreyko, Gerard Schwarz, David Zinman, Gunther Schuller, Hugh Wolf, and Simon Streatfield has provided Eric an intimate view into the many subtleties of success on the podium. Vibrant enthusiasm for contemporary styles has come from working with influential composers such as Geroge Crumb, Arvo Part, John Corigliano, Joan Tower, Louis Andreissen, Christopher Rouse and Kelly Marie Murphy.
As a soloist/clinician, Eric has given recitals and lectures across the U.S. and around the world. International venues have included Canada, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Chile, Montenegro, Georgia, Ecuador, Austria, the Czech Republic, with multiple engagements in Poland, China, and Russia.
The breadth of Eric’s bass artistry expands beyond the classical realm with years of varied experience in a diverse array of musical endeavors. For example, performing with opera luminaries Leontyne Price, Ben Heppner, Renee Fleming and Kathleen Battle, also includes popular vocal stars such as Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli, Sting, Kristen Chenoweth, and Peter Cetera. Film greats include Henry Mancini and Danny Elfman, and performing with jazz legends the likes of Mel Torme, Peter Nero, Dizzie Gillespie, Al Jarreau, Arturo Sandoval, Michael Feinstein and Doc Severinson.
As a composer/arranger his works have been featured by the Vecchione Erdahl Duo, Jeff Bradetich with Andres Bennetzen, on intenational tours of the BYU Young Ambassadors, at the World Double Bass Festival in Poland, conventions of the International Society of Bassists, and at the International Chamber Music Academy at the Landesmusikakademie Ochsenhousen, with commissions from, and publications by Recital Music (UK).
